Science History
The Black Death was thought to be a punishment from god for all the evil and sins people committed, another thing thought to have caused the plague is Jews. It was believed that the Jews poisoned the wells and other water sources. They were accused of trying to destroy Christianity, even thought Jews were just as likely to be infected as Christians. Jews were often tortured into confession, admitting they poisoned the water sources and causing the plague. As a result Jews were punished by being burnt on the stake. Some people also believe the plague was cause by the alignment of the planets: Saturn, Jupiter and Mars.
Scientists now believe that the Black Death was caused by a bacterium, Yersinia Pestis or Y.Pestis. There are three different types of Y.Pestis: Bubonic plague, it causes buboes on lymph and multiplies very quickly. Bubonic plague is caused by getting bitten by infected fleas. Pneumonic plague causes victims to cough up blood, passing the disease from one person to another. Septicaemic plague is a blood infection that it extremely fatal.
